A quieter way to begin

Some questions are difficult to ask out loud.

This book begins with answers to the questions many people ask —they are provided without labels, assumptions or pressure.

01

Why do some men never speak about abuse?

Silence can be shaped by shame, fear, confusion, gender bias, social expectations and the need to survive.

02

Does early trauma really affect relationships years later?

Unresolved trauma can impact a victim’s ability to trust, making establishing safety and emotional intimacy feel impossible. Symptoms may manifest as anger, isolation and an inability to connect.

03

How can someone offer support without pushing?

Through compassion, soft language, patience and understanding you can create safety which can lead to greater intimacy.

04

Is understanding needed for healing?

For many victims, understanding brings clarity and reduces confusion, replacing judgement with compassion.

Understanding male sexual abuse

Why do so many men struggle without realizing where the pain began?

Childhood sexual abuse can remain hidden beneath years of silence, confusion and self-blame—while continuing to shape adult relationships, trust, emotional intimacy, self-worth and mental well-being.

When trauma is buried, its effects may still be present.

Many men live with anger, shame, emotional distance, isolation or difficulty trusting others without recognizing that these struggles may be connected to childhood sexual abuse. The experience may have been forgotten, minimized or never fully understood, yet unresolved childhood trauma can continue to influence emotional health and adult life.

Because of shame, fear of not being believed and the stigma surrounding male victimization, many male survivors never disclose what happened. Instead, they may cope through emotional withdrawal, overwork, isolation, excessive sexual behaviour, sports, substance use or other high-risk behaviours.

Healing often begins when silence and self-blame are replaced with understanding, compassion and language for what happened.

What MEN TOO brings into the open

  • Anger, avoidance or emotional withdrawal
  • Isolation, workaholism or excessive risk-taking
